Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (May 2, 2022) – Joey Amantea has already surpassed his total number of top fives last season during Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series competition in 2022 thanks to two more top fives last weekend.
Amantea placed third on Friday at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., and fourth on Saturday at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, giving him four top fives in seven starts this year.
The stout weekend began on Friday when Amantea invaded Delaware International Speedway for the first time this season. He advanced from fourth to third place in both a heat race and the A Main.
“Delaware had a tough track surface,” he said. “It was so rough. We had speed there in the feature and were able to hold onto third to get another podium to start the season. Honestly, I couldn’t complain about it even if I wanted.”
Amantea continued his momentum at Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Saturday, finishing third in a heat race and fourth in the feature.
“We knew going into the day we’d have speed,” he said. “We’ve always been fast there. We messed up a little in the heat race, over-anticipating the track, so we started fourth in the feature. We got to the lead on Lap 2 and led until Lap 7 or Lap 8. Those were our first laps led with the series since last June and those laps I started on the pole so I don’t know how much they count.
“I was able to run the top. Guys dove to the bottom or left a hole open. I ended up throwing a slider going into one. The leader crossed me over and then I threw another slider going into turn three. I held them off for a little bit. They found a little more moisture than I did. Once we all filed out, us top four cars were all within a car length of each other. We were all really fast. I was super stoked about that. We’ve gone from being a second slower than those guys to just a tenth. We’re missing just that little bit.”
This weekend is dormant for the sprint car so Amantea is aiming to make his micro sprint season debut on Sunday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.
“We have a brand new car and a brand new motor we’re bringing,” he said. “We’re trying a new motor package this year so I’m curious to see how it runs. I’m really excited to break out the micro sprint. We haven’t got the opportunity to do it this year so hopefully we can start out with a strong run.”
