Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 19, 2022) – Joey Amantea produced one of his best weekends of his sprint car career, capturing a pair of top fives and three top 10s in a trio of feature starts with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series.
Amantea finished third and fifth, respectively, during twin features on Thursday at Bloomsburg Fairgrounds in Bloomsburg, Pa., prior to a sixth-place outing at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday. The results were Amantea’s career best at both dirt tracks.
“Bloomsburg was really good,” he said. “It was really fast all night there. We had a shot to win, but I made some mistakes. Just some driver errors put us finishing third and fifth. Ultimately, we showed speed and we were racing with the top drivers in our series so it was a good confidence booster for all of us.”
Amantea advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the second row in the first main event.
“We were moved up a row and started outside pole in the first feature,” he said. “I just sent it in way too hard into turn one and biked the car up. The track was one groove at that point and we finished third.
“In the second feature we were up to third at one point, but I got held up and ended up falling to fifth. I had fourth at the line and lost it by a couple hundredths.”
The weekend wrapped up with another stout performance on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, where Amantea rebounded from an incident in his heat race to place second.
“I messed up on Lap 1, got crossed up and spun,” he said. “I came from last to finish second and make the feature redraw. Come feature-time the track was rubber down immediately. I ran fifth the majority of the race and on a restart I tried to get by fourth and lost fifth. Our team showed tremendous speed and we were really fast so we were pleased with the night.”
Amantea has a top-six finish in all four series races this season and he ranks fourth in the championship standings – only five points behind third place and 38 points out of the lead.
He returns to series competition this Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
