Inside Line Promotions – Mt. POCONO, Pa. (May 17, 2022) – Joey Amantea is aiming to compete in two different race cars this week.
Amantea is hopeful to make his long-awaited micro sprint season debut on Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., before tackling a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series doubleheader on Friday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., and Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa.
“We’re super excited to break out the little car on Wednesday,” he said. “We fired it up Monday and it sounds really good. Hopefully we’ll have a good outing with it.”
Amantea hasn’t been able to compete in micro sprint competition since his career-best performance at the Tulsa Shootout in early January.
He has enjoyed success in non-wing sprint car action this year, earning four top fives and six top 10s in seven starts heading into this weekend when he will make his season debut at Bedford Speedway and at Selinsgrove Speedway.
“We’ve been fast all year,” he said. “I enjoy Bedford. It reminds me a little of some micro tracks we’ve run around. We’ve been there two times in the sprint car and we have a top five so that gives us confidence.
“Selinsgrove is one of my favorite tracks. We ended up fourth last summer out there with a not great car either. I think with our new setups and the way we’ve been racing we have a chance for podiums if not a win this weekend.”
Amantea enters the weekend ranked fourth in the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series championship standings.
