PETERSEN MEDIA- Reuniting with Cook Motorsports over the weekend, weather issues in the Northwest saw the team change their plans late last week, and it paid off as Becker finished second on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“We rolled out the team’s new 410 on Friday night at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, OR and put ourselves in a hole by not timing in very well,” Becker said. “With the track how it was, it was so narrow that we were stuck in the back all night and it wasn’t very fun. Fast forward to Sunday, and the team worked hard to get us better and better each time we hit the track, and the track had a lot of character for the feature.”

Timing the Absolute Plumbing/Cook’s Contracting/CSR Builders backed No. 22x in third fastest in his qualifying group, Becker would line up on the front row of his heat race before finishing third.

Having a little luck on his side, Becker would still sneak into the Dash based on his qualifying time and his third-place finish put him in the second row of the 35-lap Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial feature event.

Getting shuffled back to fifth when the feature event came to life, Becker would soon start to let it all hang out as he ran the ragged edge of the speedway, but it would be above a couple of ruts that surfaced through the night.

Racing his way into second on the race’s 18th lap, Becker would close in on race leader Tanner, Carrick, and actually led the 26th lap as he had the advantage at the start-finish line.

While the race in traffic, Carrick powered back ahead off of turn two before a yellow flew a lap later and bunched the field back up.

Falling back to third, one final restart saw Becker come back to life as he made a big move around Tony Gomes to reclaim second as he closed in on Tanner Carrick with time running out.

Erasing Carrick’s gap, Becker would try and make it interesting coming to the checkered, but he would come up short as he capped the weekend off with a hard fought second place finish, just .15 seconds behind the race winner.

“I must say, I am disappointed with myself for not completing those passes for the lead and closing out a win with all the sacrifices and traveling this team has made,” Becker added. “We are scheduled to run both nights together in Chico, CA this weekend and they definitely deserve a win.”

Cook Motorsports would like to thank Absolute Plumbing, Cook’s Contracting, CSR Builders, Shark Racing Engines, Cottage Grove Inn, Primetime Designs, Highline Performance, Les Schwab, and Cascade Pizza for their support.
