GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (February 13, 2023) – As so many of the nation’s top open wheel competitors do, “Blackjack” Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing activated their 2023 campaign with a trip to the Sunshine State, joining the All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in Volusia Speedway Park’s annual DIRTcar Nationals.
Despite the fifth and final day ultimately losing a battle to Mother Nature, which will be contested when the Outlaws return to Volusia in early March, Brown made the best of his week-long venture and highlighted the four contested features with back-to-back 14th-place scores against the All Star Circuit of Champions on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 7-8. The Higginsville, Missouri, native, who headquarters his familiar ‘21’ in nearby Grain Valley, went on to qualify for each of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series programs that followed, finishing 17th and 22nd, respectively.
Brown was scheduled to start in Saturday’s DIRTcar Nationals finale dash and A-Main, but as mentioned, weather cut the event short.
“It was great to get the 2023 season started at Volusia. It seemed like every night we had great car speed, we just weren’t able to package it all and put a whole night together…just missing a little bit in the features,” Brian Brown, ace of the Casey’s/FVP No. 21, said. “On the final night, we were definitely hitting on all eight cylinders with a great qualifying effort and heat race win, but Mother Nature stepped in and ruined the party. We’ll get a chance to pick up where we left off in a few weeks.
“I’m just so proud of our team and how well we all worked together,” Brown added. “Thanks to Chad Morgan, Justin Lawer, my dad Robert, and Lath Hicks for busting their butts in such a demanding week.”
