PETERSEN MEDIA: After a week away from racing due to inclement weather, Bubba DeCaires was back in the central valley of California on Saturday night as he raced to a 16th place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour during the Peter Murphy Classic and Kings Speedway.

“I didn’t get timed in very well in our group and that put us deep in our heat race,” DeCaires said. “We had a couple of things go our way in our heat race and we were able to race directly into the feature event.”

Timing the Thompson’s Toyota/Morrison Concrete/MaxSells.Net backed No. 94 in seventh fastest in his qualifying group, DeCaires put himself in the fourth row of his heat race.

Needing to finish in the Top-Five to avoid the ‘B’, DeCaires got off to a nice start as he jumped into sixth and chased after the fifth and final transfer position. With another car having some misfortune, DeCaires was able to capitalize and move into fifth. Hanging on to the position, DeCaires was safely in the 30-lap feature event where he took the green flag from the 19th starting position.

From the back of the pack, the Elk Grove, CA driver took a liking to the freshly groomed Kings Speedway surface as he jumped into 16th on the first lap and found himself up in 14th a lap later.

Continuing to battle with some of the top 360ci drivers in the region, DeCaires was able to work his way as high as 12th in the action-packed feature as he continued to chase after a spot inside the Top-10.

Holding down 12th, a late restart would hinder DeCaires’ final result as a slight miscue coming back to green saw him slip back to 16th where he ultimately took the checkered flag.

“The end result wasn’t great, but I was really happy with the changes we made and how we ran in the feature,” DeCaires said. “This year I am doing what I can to race at as many places as possible, so we know there are going to be some nights that are tough as we figure our car out at places we haven’t been to a lot before.”

DeCaires would like to thank Thompson’s Toyota, Morrison Concrete, MaxSells.Net, Wion’s Body Shop, and El Dorado Hills Landscaping for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: DeCaires gets right back to action this weekend as he will be at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
