Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 25, 2022) – Derek Hagar’s hot start to the 2022 season continued last Saturday at I-30 Speedway, where Hagar scored his fourth triumph during his eighth start this year.
“It feels really good,” he said. “It’s been a while since we’ve had this strong of a start to a season. I don’t know if I need to thank my personal trainer for the fitness or what’s different, but things are working out really well. I’m in the best physical shape I’ve been in a long time so I’m feeling pretty good about the season.”
The track was originally scheduled to host a two-day event with the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League.
“That got cancelled so thankfully Tracey (Clay) was nice enough to pick up a weekly show so we had somewhere to race,” Hagar said. “We went from seventh to fourth in our heat race and then got lucky because someone didn’t go to the scales so that gave us more points. I think we were supposed to start eighth in the feature, but it moved us up to starting third.
“We were terrible early. I was a little tight. I fell back to probably fifth or sixth early in the race and just had to wait on the track to come to me. We picked up a couple of positions and then had a caution I’d say with 15 laps to go. I regrouped, moved the wing back a little bit and started floating the middle. I got by (Matt) Covington shortly after the restart and a lap later I got by (Blake) Hahn. Then I got in a good battle with Cody Garner for a few laps. I was finally able to get by him in turns one and two on the bottom with probably eight or nine laps to go. I guess I got the balance on the car right and the track came to us. The car was hooked up and working well. We made it through traffic without any trouble.”
The win was Hagar’s second of the season at I-30 Speedway.
Weather will dictate Hagar’s racing plan this weekend. He is planning to compete Friday and Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., with the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League and ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Sooner Region or Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
