Inside Line Promotions – HARRISBURG, Ark. (May 30, 2022) – Derek Hagar is tied for the USCS Series Speedweek points lead following the first two rounds.

Hagar posted results of second last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway and fifth on Sunday at Old No. 1 Speedway.

“That’s the main goal is to try to get us another Speedweek title,” said Hagar, who owns three USCS Series Speedweek championships. “We just hope everyone races with a smart head and nobody does anything stupid.”

A run from fourth to second in a heat race on Saturday narrowly missed a spot into the dash at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. That lined Hagar up on the inside of the fourth row for the A Main.

“The track was really rough after the amount of rain we’ve had,” he said. “It was one of those things where it was better than the alternative, but it had some rough characteristics. We were able to survive and bring the car home in one piece to have a good night.”

Hagar’s second-place showing was his seventh podium of the season.

Old No. 1 Speedway hosted the second night of Speedweek competition on Sunday evening. Hagar raced for the lead in a heat race, but he was involved in a crash that resulted in a DNF.

“We raced underneath someone and he drove us into the infield down the back straightaway,” he said. “He went to block in turns three and four and got a bit sideways, which allowed me to get another run on him. He went to the middle of the front straightaway so I went against the fence and he turned right and ran over our left front, which knocked the front end out. We had a really good car and I felt we had a race winning car all night. Fortunately we were able to gain some positions back in the B Main and the A Main.”

Despite being buried in the consolation race, Hagar rallied to win it from the ninth starting position. He continued to make progress in the feature as he rolled from 15th to a fifth-place result. The performance earned the Hard Charger Award for gaining the most positions.

“I wish we had some cautions in the feature to bunch the field up,” he said. “The track was hard to pass on. After one of the restarts I got the bottom working pretty good for me and passed quite a few cars down there. The track started laying a little rubber on top so I had to hurry up and get up there.”

Speedweek continues this Thursday at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala.; Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss.
