LEBANON, Pa.: Brian Leppo couldn’t help getting emotional as he stood in the Lincoln Speedway and looked at the turnout, both in the pits and the grandstand.

The hard work paid off. It was the type of response Leppo was hoping for when putting together The Final Steve Smith Sr. Tribute, an event to honor a Sprint Car legend and beloved family member.

Thanks to sponsors, drivers, Lincoln, and of course, the fans, The Final Steve Smith Sr. Tribute was a success. There were 50 cars in the pit area, a big crowd in attendance, and plenty of action on the track.

“I’m overwhelmed with the support we received for this event,” Leppo said. “I’ve been reflecting on it for the last couple of weeks, and I still can’t believe how everything went and just the event itself.

“We wouldn’t have been able to have an event like that if not for the many people who helped out. All of the sponsors donating money and time, the drivers and teams that showed up, Lincoln Speedway … everybody stepped up to make this a great event.”

The Final Steve Smith Sr. Tribute featured the largest purse in Lincoln Speedway and Pennsylvania Speedweek history. Thanks to a host of sponsors, there were also multiple contingency awards handed out, including Mechanic of the Race, Hard Charger, the Bandit Challenge, and more.

When you have a purse like that, you are going to draw cars. A robust field of 50 teams jammed the pit area, including World of Outlaws regulars Carson Macedo and Logan Schuchart. California-based Tarlton Racing and Australian driver James McFadden were also in attendance.

Along with a packed grandstand and infield, The Final Steve Smith Sr. Tribute was also seen across the country on Pay-Per-View, which added an extra level of attention to an event that will be remembered for years to come.

“I just want to thank everybody who participated in this event again … the sponsors, Lincoln Speedway, everybody,” Leppo said. “They allowed us to put on a race that made us proud, and I can’t say enough about the fans. This event was for them and honoring the memory of Steve.”
