PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to California two weeks ago after a memorable winter in New Zealand, Joel Myers Jr opened his season with the King of the West/NARC Series on Saturday night in Antioch, CA and finished 13th after getting upside down in his heat race.
“It was a tough way to kick off our season at home, but it felt great to be back racing with my friends and family,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I am excited to be back, and I’m eager to get two nights in this weekend.”
Already competing 12 times with seven feature event wins in this calendar year while he was ‘down under’ the curtain rose on 2023 in CA with ‘Jr’ timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in 13th fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Myers Jr would have tough luck as a part failure sent him flipping at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, and the team quickly went to work to make repairs for the upcoming feature event.
With the heat race DNF, Myers Jr lined up in the 10th row for the 30-lap feature event on a very slick racing surface.
Making his first appearance at the facility since the 2019 season, Myers Jr was slowly able to work his way forward. Cracking the Top-15 on the fifth circuit, Myers would then spend the next 10-laps fighting for the 14th position. Abel finally work his way into 14th, Myers raced his way into 13th late in the feature as he spent the duration of the race battling in traffic.
When the 30-lapper came to a close, Myers Jr closed his night out with a 13th place finish.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted, and we were a little off in the feature, but all in all it was just good to get back to racing at home,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We worked really hard in a short amount of time to get our program ready for this season, and we are excited to see what is to come.”
