PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking in two nights of racing action in Chico, CA over this past weekend, Joel Myers Jr would bounce back from a bit of a tough outing on Friday night, and promptly charged to 11th from 18th on Saturday night during KWS action.

“We put a different car together for last weekend, and we were a little slow to get going over the weekend,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Friday night I felt good in the feature, but after an early red the car didn’t feel the same and I couldn’t really get going. Saturday night we had an issue in qualifying but got it fixed for the heat, and then we had a nice run from the back to 11th on a pretty technical track in the feature.”

Friday night’s unsanctioned event saw the Sebastopol, CA driver tie the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete/Hi-Plains Building Division backed No. 83V machine in fifth fastest in his time trial group.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, the 16-year-old would slip back and finish sixth which placed him 16th on the starting grid from the 25-lap Brownell/Herseth Classic feature event.

From the eighth row, Myers Jr was able to slowly work through the field as he eyed a spot in the Top-10. Getting into 14th at the halfway point, Myers Jr would get into 12th just before a pair of red flags halted the action.

After the two stoppages were clear, the last seven laps would be a bit of a struggle for Myers Jr. Losing a couple of position in the closing stages of the race, Myers Jr ended Friday night with a 14th place finish.

Saturday marked the resumption of the King of the West schedule after a brief hiatus, and Myers Jr got the night underway by timing in 20th fastest.

Going to work on the Vertullo Motorsports car prior the heat race action, qualifying issues were rectified as a fourth-place finish locked ‘Jr’ into the 35-lap David Tarter Memorial feature event.

Taking the green flag form 18th, Myers Jr would do a masterful job or working his way forward on an old school type Silver Dollar Speedway surface that was presented for the feature event.

Finding himself up in 13th by the 11th lap, Myers Jr would make a slight bobble at the halfway point that saw him slip back to 17th.

Gathering his car back up, Myers Jr would soon move back into 13th, before working his way into 11th in the closing laps. Making a bid for a Top-10 in the final two laps, Myers Jr would bring his weekend to a close with an 11th place finish.

“For some reason qualifying has been the Achilles heel for us all year, and with these formats it can really make or break your night,” Myers Jr said. “We have good speed when it’s time to race, so I think we will be really good once we start getting timed in a little better. Thanks to all the Vertullo Motorsports guys for their hard work all weekend long.”
