PETERSEN MEDIA: Justin Sanders’ busy 2023 season continued over the weekend as he picked up a fifth-place finish on Friday night in Watsonville, CA and then finished sixth with the NARC/KWS at Antioch Speedway on Saturday night.

“Friday night we got off to a really bad start to our night, but we got things ironed out and raced well,” Justin Sanders said. “Saturday night at Antioch, we got off to a good start to the night, but we couldn’t get going in the feature.”

Back aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x on Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Sanders got off to an uncharacteristically slow start at the track he calls home as he timed in 13th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, Sanders had his elbows up in the Farmers Brewing/North County Plastering/Mittry Construction entry as he sliced and diced his way to a third-place finish.

Moving into the 30-lap feature event, Sanders still found himself in a bit of a hole as he took the green flag from the 11th starting position. Moving into 10th when the race went green, Sanders was mired in traffic and stuck mid-pack for the first half of the race.

Following a lap 16 restart, Sanders came to life and began working his way forward as he moved into eighth on the 16th lap, jumped to sixth one lap later, and cracked the Top-Five on lap 19.

With a very strong car underneath him in the closing laps, Sanders did take a peak at fourth on the 23rd lap, but settled back into fifth where he went on to close out his night.

Moving into 410ci action on Saturday night, Sanders and Mittry Motorsports met the NARC/KWS series at Antioch Speedway ending a multi-year hiatus at the track.

Sanders opened the night up by earning fast time honors which placed him in the second row of his heat race. Finishing third in the 10-lap heat, the Aromas, CA driver moved into the Dash where the six put him in the third row of the six-lap shootout.

Finishing fifth in the Dash, Sanders was set for the 30-lap feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the third row on a very slick Antioch Speedway surface.

Working into fourth when the green flag was displayed to the field, Sanders fell to fifth on the 11th lap where he was then in an entertaining three car battle for position. A very entertaining battle broke out as Sanders was officially in fourth on the 16th lap, and then back in sixth a lap later.

Slipping back to seventh on the race’s lone restart with four to go, Sanders powered his way into six on the race’s final stanza.

“We got into a good battle, but it kind of kept us from moving forward anymore,’ Sanders said. “Another good weekend for our team, and looking forward to Chico, CA for two nights this week.”

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
