PETERSEN MEDIA: A last minute change of plans saw Justin Sanders make the trip to Petaluma Speedway with Mittry Motorsports where he picked up a second-place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour during the Adobe Cup.
“We had a good car and we picked up another second-place finish which I think is like our 18th runner up finish of the season,” Justin Sanders said. “This one is a little different because if I’m going to run second, it is cool to run second to Joel Myers Jr who picked up his first win, so I want to send a congrats to him and his team.”
Getting off to a great start on Saturday night in the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering backed No. 2x, Sanders timed in quick time in his group which set his night up well.
Pocketing a third-place finish in his heat race, Sanders locked into the High Sierra Industries Dash where his seventh-place finish lined him up in the fourth row of the 35-lap feature event.
At a venue that has been tricky for him to master over the years, Sanders had a great start on the hooked-up surface as he quickly worked his way into the Top-Five as battled with the likes of Colby Johnson, Andy Forsberg and Tony Gomes.
Continuing to work around the fast surface, the Aromas, CA wheel made powered his way into fourth, before inheriting the third position on lap 27 after Andy Forsberg got upside down.
The lap 27 restart saw Sanders begin to pressure Ryan Robinson for the second position, and as their battle heated up it allowed the race leader to pull away.
Getting by Robinson to overtake second, Sanders’ effort proved to be for not as the caution flag flew and lined the field back up in single file formation with Sanders back in third.
The final restart of the night was good for Sanders as he ripped around Robinson to overtake second but was not match for Myers Jr. With the checkered flag in the air, Sanders capped his night off with a runner up finish as he now turns his attention to tomorrow night’s High Limit event in Ohio.
“To go to Petaluma Speedway was a last minute change of plans, so it was great to run well,” Sanders said. “Thanks to the Mittry team and everyone that supports our efforts for making it all possible.”
Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
