PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend for Justin Sanders saw the Aromas, CA runner battle back from an incident in traffic on Friday night while battling for the lead to finish 10th at Ocean Speedway, before tallying a sixth-place finish with the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Stockton, CA.

“It was a good weekend of racing, I wish we had some better luck in Friday’s ‘A’ though,” Justin Sanders said. “Saturday it was great to get back in Kevin Kozlowski’s No. 57 and work him Paul Silva, and the entire team.”

Friday night, Sanders was in action at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA aboard the Mittry Motorsports owned Famers Brewing No. 2x machine. Timing in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials, Sanders would power his way to a heat race win which put him into the nightly Dash.

Running third in the Dash, Sanders would line up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event behind teammate Max Mittry, and last week’s winner, Tanner Carrick.

While Carrick got the jump when the race went green, Sanders jumped into second as the duo hooked up in another outstanding battle just as they engaged in during the Ocean Speedway’s season opener.

Running in the second spot, lapped traffic would change the complexion on Sanders’ night. With a car getting sideways in front of him, Sanders would make contact which caused a flat left rear tire.

Forced to the work area, and to the back of the pack, Sanders would put on a show from the back as he was able to work his way back up to a 10th place finish.

Saturday night, Sanders returned to the seat of the Works Limited No. 57w, a car that he had much success at the end of 2021, as the team took part in the King of the West’s season opener.

Timing in ninth fastest in time trials on the slick Stockton Dirt Track surface, Sanders would line up on the front row of his heat race, alongside Tim Kaeding.

Finishing second, Sanders would not tally enough points to garner a berth into the Dash as he moved into the feature event. With track maintenance going on throughout the night, the surface would go from slick with options to pass, to narrow and fast.

With passing only taking place during a slew of restarts, Sanders would battle hard for a Top-Five finish though would come up just short as he finished in the sixth position.

“Thanks to everyone on both teams for all of their hard work,” Justin Sanders said. “Looking forward to two more nights of racing this weekend in Tulare, CA and Hanford, CA.

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2021.
