PETERSEN MEDIA: Justin Sanders and the Mittry Motorsports team continued to show speed together during two events over the weekend. Friday night in 360ci competition Sanders finished second and backed it up with a fourth place run with the KWS series on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA.
“I really want to thank the Mittry Motorsports team for continuing to provide us with the tools we need to be fast,” Sanders said. “I would have liked to pick up a win or two for the team but were rolling along strong right now and I am excited for four nights of 410ci action in the Northwest this weekend.”
Checking in at nearby Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night, Sanders flexed his muscle early as he timed the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering backed No. 2x in fastest overall in qualifying time trials.
Racing from fourth to third in his heat race, Sanders would move into the Taco Bravo Dash where his fourth-place finish lined him up in the second row of the 30-lap feature alongside his younger brother, Ricky.
On a very slick, and soon to be abrasive, surface, Sanders would get a good start as he jumped into second and began pressuring early leader, Joey Ancona.
With rubber going down just a few laps into the feature, Sanders would take a couple of shots at Ancona for the race lead early but would be unable to make anything stick.
Hounding Ancona for the duration of the race, the rubber down conditions forced him to conserve tires and stay in line. With laps winding down, Sanders would pick his pace up as he closed in on Ancona hoping to force a misstep from the leader.
With nothing doing, Sanders would hang on to finish in the runner up position.
Saturday night the scene shifted to Petaluma, CA as Sanders was back in action with the King of the West Series one week after a turbulent couple of nights resulted in a pair of DNF’s.
Qualifications resulted in Sanders timing in second fastest of the 17 cars checked in at the Sonora-Marin County facility.
Racing from fourth to second in his heat race, Sanders moved into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash where his fifth-place finish lined him up in the third row of the feature event.
A tricky track surface saw Petaluma Speedway offer up a little bit of everything at various areas of the speedway. The tricky surface didn’t allow for much passing as Sanders ran well inside the Top-five for the duration of the race.
On a track that he hasn’t logged very many laps at over the course of his career until recently, Sanders capped the weekend off with a fourth-place finish.
“Petaluma is a place that has always been tough for me, so to time in well and race well in the feature really gives our team some added confidence as we head North.”
Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
ON TAP: Sanders will be back in action on Thursday in Medford, OR, Friday in Lebanon, OR, and Friday and Saturday in Elma, WA.
