Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (May 18, 2020) – Kaleb Johnson is looking forward to finally getting his 2020 racing season underway this weekend at Park Jefferson International Speedway.
Johnson plans to race at the dirt oval in North Sioux City, S.D., on Saturday during the 4th annual Memorial Duels with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprint Series and the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and on Monday during the 3rd annual Pepsi South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series.
“It’s obviously been an extra-long offseason,” he said. “It feels weird that our first race of the year will be on Memorial Day Weekend. But we’re excited just to be at a race track again and to get back to a bit more normalcy.”
Johnson will primarily focus on shaking off the rust after his extended period from behind the wheel.
“It almost feels like a year since I’ve been in a race car,” he said. “The last time I raced was last September. My last race in a 360 was at the Knoxville Nationals the first week in August. I hope I’m not too rusty.”
While Johnson has had limited laps in a 360ci sprint car at Park Jefferson International Speedway, he has had some favorable finishes in a 305ci sprint car.
“I’ve ran there twice before in a 360,” he said. “One time we blew the motor and I don’t recall how we did the other time so it probably wasn’t very well. But we’ve had some good runs in the 305 there.
“We just want to get out there and learn some things against some good competition. I think there will be a lot of cars since few places are racing. I’m looking forward to going to a track where it will feel like a real race – one where we’ll be racing in front of fans. It will be nice to get back into our racing routine.”
