PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to work with F&F Racing on Saturday night in Merced, CA, Kaleb Montgomery would have some tough luck in his heat race that led to a long with during the second round of SCCT action.

“We didn’t have a great qualifying run, but you’ll have nights like that,” Montgomery said. “We were in a good spot in our heat race, but unfortunately, we got caught up in someone else’s misstep and it knocked our front end out. With the car count, that put us in the ‘C’, and pretty much dictated our night.”

With 52 cars on hand during Saturday’s SCCT event in Merced, CA, Montgomery tied the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Lucas Oil backed No. x1 machine in fourth quickest in his group of 11.

Lining up third in his heat race, the Templeton, CA driver would settle into the fourth and final transfer spot as he worked around the extremely slick Merced bullring.

As luck would have it, a driver would get of shape in front of Montgomery and making contact, damage would occur to the front end of the Friends and Family entry, and it would result in Montgomery bringing out the caution as he needed assistance to the pit area.

With the robust car count, it meant Montgomery would be forced into the ‘C’, and after track prep, the race would be run on a very fast and narrow racing surface.

Lining up 10th in the 10-lap ‘C’, Montgomery would have his work out for him as only the Top-Two finishers would transfer into the ‘B’. While passing was tough, Montgomery did give it everything he had had he was able to pick up five positions and finish fifth. While it ended his night, Montgomery was still pleased with how his car was all night long despite the tough results.

“On paper it wasn’t a good night, but if we don’t run into that issue in our heat, we are probably in the feature, or at worst starting in front of the ‘B’, and who knows what happens,” Montgomery said. “These F&F guys worked hard again for me, and I am excited to get back up to Placerville Speedway this weekend. Warmer temps, and hopefully a slick track with a big curb to lean on.”

F&F Racing would like to thank Bushey Financial Services, C&H Motor Parts, Lucas Oil, Geico Local Office, Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, Pacific Highway Rentals, PitStopUSA, FVP, CRV Carbon Solutions, American River Overhead Door, All Pro Heads, Engler, and Don Ott Racing Engines for their support.
