PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Placerville, CA Justyn Cox had a turbulent night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour that ultimately ended with a part failure during the 35-lap feature event.
“A couple weeks ago we rolled out a new car and some other new components and we have been figuring different things out with each and every race,” Justyn Cox said. “Saturday night we had some issues early, but we were able to tweak on our car for the feature event to only have a part failure end our night early.”
With 35 cars on hand for the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Cox got off to a quick start as he timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/MDW Sports backed No. 31c entry in second fastest in his qualifying group.
A tough start to his heat race saw Cox get on the bike in the first turn and lay his Cox-Berco Racing car on it’s side and draw the red flag.
Able to restart with no significant damage, Cox would do a great job of wrestling his machine around the ¼ mile bullring as he battled for a transfer into the feature event.
Racing into fifth, Cox would pressure for fourth but would settle into the final transfer into the 35-lap feature event as he would put himself in the 19th starting position on what would be a very slick racing surface that built up a sizeable cushion in each corner.
Making changes leading up to the feature event, Cox would slowly work his way forward as he mired in thick traffic on the racy speedway. Getting into the Top-15 just before the halfway point, Cox would move into 13th on lap 18.
The run in 13th would last only a few laps as his night came to end with apparent issues on the 23rd lap as he exited the track and made his way back to his pit area.
“It was a bummer, but the bright side was us going back to some old set up notes form a few years ago and me feeling really good on the slick surface,” Cox added. “Thanks to all these guys for continuing to work so hard for me.”
The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-5
ON TAP: Cox is hoping his 410ci engine arrives this week so he can travel to Chico, CA with the King of the West Series on Friday night.
