PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Stockton, CA, Ryan Robinson made a big time move late in the feature event that led him his first win of the season as he took top billing at the Jimmy Sills Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
“For some reason we are still struggling on the balance of the car early in the night, but both nights we were able to get things ironed out for the feature, and it made for two fun runs including a win in Stockton,” Ryan Robinson said.
After timing the Mako Farms Inc./LP Holdings/RPI backed No. 14w entry in second fastest in his qualifying group, the Foresthill, CA driver would line up on the front row of his heat race.
Picking up the win, Robinson earned a berth into the High Sierra Industries Dash where a fifth-place finish put him in the third row of the feature event.
On a Stockton Dirt Track that was in impeccable shape for the 30-lap Jimmy Sills Classic ‘A’, Robinson was able to cruise to the front as he was able to get through traffic better than his competition.
Working into third, Robinson would build up momentum late in the race and on the 23rd lap he was able to split a lapped car heading into turn three to take second before executing a huge move on the exit of turn four that gave him the race lead.
Going on to lead the final seven laps of the feature, Robinson was able to pick up his first win of the season, which came during a crucial SCCT event as he looks to repeat as the series champion.
Heading to Marysville Raceway on Sunday, Robinson again fought that early balance issue that relegated him to an eighth quick effort in his qualifying group that put him in an early hole.
Running sixth in his heat race, Robinson would make a trip to the ‘B’ where he quickly took over command of the race from his second row starting position and went on to win going away.
Moving into the 35-lap feature event, Robinson would take the green flag from the 21st starting position on a very rough and fast racing surface.
Getting a very good start, Robinson was able to make up a ton of headway as he quickly cracked the Top-10 and was into the seventh position when the caution flew at the halfway point.
Under yellow, damage from contact during his charge would appear as his left rear tire went flat and it forced him to the work area, forfeiting all his hard work.
Making the change, Robinson rejoined the field at the back of the pack and put on the same show during the second half of the race as he did during the first 16 laps.
Though he wouldn’t get back up to seventh, Robinson still earned PitStopUSA.Com Hard Charger Honors as he made it back to ninth.
“In the feature I felt like we were way faster than everyone, and it showed with how we worked our way forward,” Robinson said. “If we didn’t have that tire go down, I am curious to see where we would have ended up. Going back to Saturday, Stockton is in the Weiher family’s backyard so to win there is always great because I know it means a lot for Todd and everyone.”
Weiher Racing would like to thank Mako Farms Inc., LP Holdings, Roseville Precision Inc., Escalon Body and Frame, Seth’s Racing Engines, Pettibone Builders, Sipes CC, The Holman Family, Square Tires, Papa Chuck, Dave Harvey Trucking, and Morrison Concrete for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-1, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-6
ON TAP: Robinson and the Weiher Racing team will be at Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night.
