Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2020): Jason Sides overcame an early spin last Saturday to record his best finish during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s finale since 2017.

The rare weekend behind the wheel of a 360ci winged sprint car was a work in progress at East Bay Raceway Park, where Sides placed fifth in both a heat race and a B Main on Thursday to narrowly miss locking into the main event. He capped the night with a runner-up result in the Wetherington Tractor Service, Inc., dash.

“It didn’t go as planned,” he said. “The first night we missed the show by one spot. I felt like we should have been better, but we didn’t get it done.”

Friday’s program rained out before Sides kicked off the show on Saturday by maneuvering from fourth to second place in a heat race. That locked him into the 14th starting position for the 40-lap main event.

“I ended up spinning early trying to get more,” he said. “I ran down into turn one. I went to the bottom and ran in there a little too hard. By the time I got it slowed down it came around on me. You hate it and you run harder to make up spots and then you make a few mistakes. Then you get settled down and get into a rhythm. I went to the rear and had to fight my way through there.”

Sides rallied from the back of the pack to an 11th-place finish.

“All in all it got better throughout the weekend,” he said. “Any time you get to hang out with sponsors it’s pretty good and laid back, but you’re still there to race well. We didn’t get the results we wanted, but we had a great time.”

Sides will be off the next couple of weekends before resuming competition with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series March 13 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and March 14 at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, during the East Texas Lone Star Shootout.
