Inside Line Promotions – BARTLETT, Tenn. (May 4, 2020) – It’s been approximately three months since Jason Sides and the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series have been in action.
The pause button has been selected for weeks because of COVID-19. That ends this Friday when Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, is the site of the next World of Outlaws race.
“I wish that Knoxville would have a Thursday open practice so everybody could get some laps,” Sides said. “Like when you go to Florida you use the All Stars races as hot laps and practice before you start the season. I’ve seen some guys out testing. It’s been a long time since we’ve raced.”
Sides kicked off the season by tackling two events in Florida in February. He highlighted the DIRTcar Nationals with a charge from 26th to 18th before he earned his best finish during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s finale since 2017 with an 11th-place run.
The racing world was halted before his next race and Sides has been sidelined for nearly 12 weeks.
“I’ve realized there’s more in life than racing,” he said. “I’ve done a lot of yard work and things around the house. The whole time it’s going on you can’t wait to get back to racing, but now that it’s time to get back going I’ve enjoyed the time off. It’s been good to spend some family time.”
Following Friday’s event the next race is up in the air, Sides said.
“As of right now there’s no definite plans of where we are racing the following weekend,” he said. “That’s up to the Outlaws and they won’t know until after this weekend.”
