Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (May 4, 2020) – Trey Starks will make his first start in more than two and a half months this Friday when the Gobrecht Motorsports driver joins the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at Knoxville Raceway.
The race at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, marks both the first World of Outlaws event and the first race for Starks since the middle of February.
“It’s a little weird with everything that’s been going on,” Starks said. “We’re not easing back into it because the first race back features 50 racers at a World of Outlaws race. I didn’t really know when or if we’d get back to racing this year. I’ve been focusing on work the last two months. It gets me excited we’re going back racing again. The team regrouped and went through everything and freshened everything back up (during the time off).”
Gobrecht Motorsports became familiar with Knoxville Raceway last year when the team shifted focus to competing in the Midwest. Starks finished eighth in the championship standings and he garnered the Rookie of the Year Award during his first-ever season running for points at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World.’
“It definitely gives me some confidence,” he said. “Usually when the Outlaws come to town we’ll have a few races under our belt. In this case everybody is there and it’s the first race of the season without a practice night. It’ll be a little different.”
Starks captured five top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place run during the season finale, last year. He also earned his first career triumph at the track – a win during a preliminary night of the famed Knoxville Nationals.
“We usually start out pretty strong in the beginning of the season,” he said. “I seem to adapt to new tracks and the first race of the season so I think it will play into our hands a little bit. There’s no room for mistakes. Hopefully we can pick up where we left off last year.”
