Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Sept. 19, 2022) – Trey Starks was on pace for another victory last Saturday during the season finale at Skagit Speedway before a mechanical failure resulted in a DNF.

“The top six in track points were lined up in the scramble and the remaining cars qualified for their feature position,” he said. “I was ninth in points and they lined qualifying off points so I went out third in qualifying. I went quick time and we didn’t have any heats so that lined me up seventh in the main event.

“We were really good. I picked up a couple of spots within the first five laps. We had a restart with about six laps down and I think we were fourth. We got into third by Lap 10. We had just got by (Jason) Solwold for the lead and had a yellow around Lap 12 or Lap 13. We got back by him by Lap 15 I think and then Lap 17 was when we had the issue with the rear end.”

Starks was leading the race just after the midpoint of the 30-lap feature when a rear end problem ended his night early. He was credited with a 13 th-place result, which was only his fourth finish outside the top 10 this year.

“We were good up top and on the bottom,” he said. “I felt like I could have gone anywhere, even roll the middle if I needed to. Everything we’ve learned in the 360 car at Skagit we built on and I think I felt better than I had there all year. I think that was only our second mechanical problem all year so I’m not even worried about it. I’m really pleased with how well our car raced.”

Starks, who missed multiple points races at Skagit Speedway this season, finished ninth in the 360ci sprint car championship standings. Earlier this month he earned the track’s 410ci sprint car track championship – the first of his career.
