PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in action after taking a week off, Tanner Carrick would succumb to a cut tire on Friday night at Ocean Speedway before a fourth place run on Saturday in Placerville, CA.

“After a week off, it was great to get back racing,” Tanner Carrick said. “I felt like we had a great car both nights, but Friday we cut a tire and on Saturday night a couple of yellows fell at really inopportune times.”

Checking in at Ocean Speedway on Friday night to open the weekend up, Carrick got his weekend underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in eight fastest among the 25 cars checked in for a night of racing action.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Fishing Guide by day would race to a second-place finish as he was securely in the 30-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 10th starting position on a very slick Ocean Speedway surface, rubber would go down on the track as soon as the race his lap three.

With passing nearly an impossible feat with the track conditions, Carrick would manage to pick up a few positions as he ran in the seventh spot for much of the feature event before overtaking sixth on the 19th lap.

A caution on lap 23 would prove detrimental to Carrick as a hole in his right-rear tire would cause it to go completely flat. Rather than putting on a new tire with the rubber down surface and only seven laps in the race, Carrick slowly pulled off the speedway and headed back to his trailer.

Making the trip to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for weekly action at the fame ¼ mile bullring, Carrick got off to a quick start as he timed the Harris and Sloan/Emerald/Eddi’s Lincoln Auto Body backed entry in second fastest in time trials.

Battling with younger brother, Blake, in heat race competition, Carrick’s fourth place finish put him in the feature event, and also earned him a position in the Top-Eight redraw.

Pulling the seven, Carrick took the green flag from the fourth row. While the extremely slick surface saw much of the field ride the thick Placerville Speedway cushion, Carrick went to work on the bottom groove and made quick headway.

Jumping into third on the second lap, Carrick and the lead duo of Shane Hopkins and Kalib Henry lined up perfectly to pick off in one corner and while he was in the process of making his move, a yellow flag would waive and negate his progress.

Showing his hand, the ensuing restart saw all three drivers now using the bottom of the Speedway, and Carrick was back to the drawing board as he continued to apply pressure.

Losing his rhythm as he tried a few different lines on the slick surface, Carrick would slip back to fourth as Jodie Robinson got by late.

The slick surface did make passing more challenging in the closing stages of the race, and Carrick would go on to end his night with a fourth place finish.

“If we didn’t have that early yellow, I think our night goes a different direction,” Carrick said. “We continue to have a really good car, and put ourselves in good spots, now I just need to finish our nights a little better and reward these guys for their hard work.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
