PETERSEN MEDIA: Doing double duty on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Tanner Carrick would have a great night as he finished second with the King of the West Series and followed that up with a second-place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
“It is tough to be mad about two second place finishes, but I am a little disappointed we couldn’t pick up at least one win on Saturday night,” Tanner Carrick said. “Clark, Lucas, and Johnny have been working really hard and we were really good in both cars we just came up a little short.”
With 26 King of the West 410’s checked in on Saturday night, Carrick would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T in second fastest in qualifying time trials before racing to a third-place finish in his heat race.
Earning a berth into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash, Carrick would finish fifth and line up in the third row for the 40-lap Dave Bradway Jr Memorial.
Despite high temperatures and a lot of cars in the pit area between the two division, the track was in excellent shape as the 410ci race came to life. Using a restart to jump into fourth on the eighth lap, Carrick would roll the bottom to take the third position on the ninth lap.
A restart on the 15th lap would see Carrick make a bid for the race lead, but a quick caution would slow the battle. Under that caution, Carrick would be moved up to second as it was deemed second running Dominic Scelzi jumped the previous restart which propelled him into the lead.
Running hard in the second position, Carrick would noticeably begin to cut into Corey Day’s lead as the raced through traffic. Gaining on the leader, a couple of untimely yellows would get the leaders out of traffic and give them a clear track for the final few laps as Carrick capped the KWS version of the Bradway Jr Memorial off with a second-place finish.
SCCT 360ci action saw the Lincoln, CA driver get the night kicked off by timing the Conti, Harris, and Sloan/Hanson Truss/Timberworks Construction entry in third fastest in his qualifying group.
From his front row starting position in heat race action, Carrick would power himself to the all-important win, which placed him in the High Sierra Industries Dash.
Picking up a fifth-place finish in the Dash, Carrick would match his starting position from the KWS feature as he looked to be one spot better in the end with the SCCT.
With track extremely slick for the 35-lap finale, Carrick was again on the move as he worked his way around the ¼ mile bullring. Running back in fourth as he chased after lead trio of Justin Sanders, Shane Golobic and Ryan Robinson.
A late restart saw Golobic and Robinson have issues and it bumped Carrick into second and gave him one last shot at picking up a win on Saturday night.
Giving chase, Carrick would be unable to make a bid for the lead as he closed his night out with his second second-place finish.
“There were a few things I could have done in each race that could have given us a better shot, but you can always look back and say that, ” Carrick said. “We are really good right now, and I hope we can continue this speed as we follow the KWS up to Dirt Cup.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
