PETERSEN MEDIA: Despite battling late race brake issues, Tanner Carrick was still able to navigate his Carrick Motorsports entry to a second-place finish, despite being disappointed he was able to battle for a win late in the race.

“We had a really good car, and early in the race I was able to go wherever I needed to,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had a late yellow and my foot went to the floor when I hit the brake pedal and I looked down and had brake fluid everywhere. It was really tough to run the top, and when I went to the bottom, I basically overdrove the corner carrying too much speed, so overall I am happy we hung on to finish second.”

With 35 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for weekly points action, Carrick timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA would get a good start as he was able to pick up a couple of positions as he raced by Kyle Hirst and Jayson Bright to take over second.

Finishing second, Carrick was safely in the feature event and also locked himself into the redraw by way of his qualifying effort. Pulling the ‘five’, Carrick would line up in the third row to kick off the 25-lap Mother’s Day Madness feature event.

Slipping back to sixth when the green flag was displayed, Carrick would use an early restart to take the fifth position before moving into fourth.

Another restart saw the Lincoln, CA driver make a two-for-one in turns three and four to move into second as he began his pursuit of Justin Sanders on by lap eight.

Chasing after Sanders, Carrick would close in on the leader as they raced in traffic until a caution flag waived just after the race’s halfway point. Under the stoppage of the race, Carrick would experience a brake issue that would hinder him in the closing stages of the race.

Using his wing to help him slow down, things would be tough on Carrick as he would never be able to seriously challenge Sanders for the top spot. Wrestling his machine around the bullring in the race’s final stages, Carrick capped his night off with a second-place finish.

“It was disappointing, but it wasn’t anybody’s fault,” Carrick said. “Just a little bad luck. We have a really good car, and if we can shake some of these gremlins we will be even better. Thanks to all of these guys for continuing to work hard for this race team.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
