PETERSEN MEDIA- Tony Gomes was quick to point out that it was his fault that his night with C&M Motorsports got off to a tough start. Overcoming a tough qualifying effort, Gomes would have his elbows up in the feature as he charged to an eighth-place finish at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
“The driver turned in two pretty bad qualifying laps that put us in a deep hole,” Gomes said. “Cody and the guys gave me a really good car that was racy in our heat, and I was able to lock into the feature, and we had a really good car in the ‘A’ and I was able to move forward again.”
Timing the Legacy Specialties Inc./Lund Construction/Anrak Corp. backed No. 7c in 24th fastest in time trials, the Hollister, CA driver would line up in the third row of his heat race.
A good start saw Gomes quickly put himself in a transfer position as he secured the fourth position on the opening lap. Settling in, Gomes would hang on to the transfer spot as he would finish fourth and move onto the ‘A’ where he took the green flag from the 18th starting spot.
Getting off to a quick start, Gomes would quickly work his way up to 13th before he was involved in a lap five stoppage in turns one and two. After taking a quick trip to the work area, Gomes return to the track where he would try again but this time from 17th.
Getting off to another quick restart, Gomes would race into the Top-10 by the 13th lap. Slipping back to 11th briefly, Gomes would come alive in the final laps as he was able to power his way into ninth before working into eighth with five laps left in the race.
Hanging on to eighth, Gomes would cap his night off with a Top-10 finish.
“Our car was really good in the feature event, and it is a testament Cody, Tom, and John for all of their hard work,” Gomes said. “I also want to thank Cody and Mandi for another opportunity to drive for them.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Legacy Specialties Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
