PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending the Labor Day Weekend racing at Placerville Speedway with C&M Motorsports, Tony Gomes rebounded to finish fifth on Saturday night before capping his weekend off with a charge to ninth on Sunday night.
“We had really good cars both nights, and I had a lot of fun back in the C&M Motorsports No. 7c,” Gomes said. Really thankful for the opportunity to race with Cody and Mandi and I really appreciate all the hard work Cody, Bobby, and Ron put forth.”
Saturday night Gomes kicked the NorCal Posse Shootout off by timing the Legacy Specialties Inc./Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c in fourth fastest in his qualifying group.
Lining up third in his heat race, Gomes had his elbows up on the racy bullring as he chased after the lead duo looking for anyway to earn a berth into the redraw. Settling for third, Gomes was locked into the feature where he took the green flag from the 13th starting position.
When the race came to life, Gomes quickly started earning his money rolling the bottom gaining track position. As the track started to change, Gomes would change his line and begin working on the cushion that had built up around the speedway.
Amidst a great charge through the field, Gomes worked his way into fourth and made a bid for third. Racing for third, Gomes would get knocked off the track and lose several spots as he worked to get back down on the racing surface.
Falling back to ninth, Gomes would continue to show speed as he worked his way back to up close the night out with a fifth-place finish.
Returning to Placerville Speedway for one final night of winged 360ci racing at the venue for the season on Sunday, Gomes would time in fifth fastest in his qualifying group as he proceeded to pick up a fourth-place finish in his heat race.
Locking directly into the feature event, Gomes would again have his work cut out for himself as he lined up 15th on a very slick surface for the impending 35-lap feature event.
Though passing would prove to be tough as the track continued to clean off over the duration of the race, Gomes would again slowly work his way through the field.
Not quite able to put together the charge he had on Saturday, Gomes still worked his way into the Top-10 and he closed the weekend out with a ninth place finish.
“It was a tough field, and we did a pretty good job of coming forward all weekend long,” Gomes said. “I am really looking forward to the next opportunity I have to get back in the 7c.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Legacy Specialties Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
