PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call to return to the C&M Motorsports car on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Tony Gomes made the most of his opportunity as he picked up a sixth-place finish during his reunion with his former team.

“I am extremely thankful that Cody and Mandi gave me the chance to get back in their car and race with them on Saturday night,” Gomes said. “With the way my schedule is in 2022, I hope we can do it again soon.”

A total of 38 cars made their way to the 1/4 mile bullring nestled in the heart of El Dorado County, and Gomes showed speed early and often in the night as he timed the Legacy Specialties Inc./Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Simply needing to transfer through his heat race to make himself eligible for the redraw, Gomes did just that as he held on to the fourth spot and safely put himself in the impending 25-lap feature event.

Pulling the seven in the draw, Gomes would line up in the fourth row of the feature event alongside Justyn Cox. As the race came to life, Gomes would slip back early as he fell to the ninth spot as he worked around the slick Placerville Speedway racing surface.

Getting into eighth, Gomes would take advantage of a late restart on lap 17 that allowed him to work into the sixth position. Setting into sixth, Gomes would challenge Joel Myers Jr for a spot in the top five on the closing laps but ended up capturing a sixth place finish with the C&M Motorsports team.

“It was really cool to get back in the No. 7c and have so much speed right off the bat,” Gomes said. “I was really happy with our performance and as a driver I felt like to made some good moves throughout the race to ensure we would be in position to have a good finish. I really feel like Saturday is the perfect night to build off of for the next time we can race together. Thank you again to Cody, Mandi, MF, Bobby, and Cody Cook for all of their hard work and support, as well as to all the sponsors who back C&M Motorsports efforts.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Legacy Specialties Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
