Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2020): Florida was mission accomplished for Greg Wilson, who opened the season with seven straight nights of competition in ‘The Sunshine State.’
Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road backed team competed in five nights running Feb. 5-9 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville during the DIRTcar Nationals, recording a top result of 23rd.
“We went into Volusia not wanting to get our team into a hole,” he said. “That place is really hard on motors. We went there with the game plan of just trying to get our car better and hopefully not tear up any motors. A simple way to put it is mission accomplished.
“We have a really solid team with good help, but we’re not a huge team. The laps at that speed with that competition help speed you up. We went in with the attitude that we weren’t going to waste a bunch of money and potentially hurt our equipment. We knew what we were up against so our goal wasn’t results based. We got better at Volusia even though the results didn’t necessarily show it.”
The action shifted to East Bay Raceway Park for a pair of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races a week ago Monday and Tuesday.
“We were pretty competitive both nights,” he said. “We were running inside the top 10 and banged wheels with someone during the opening night. We were lucky we finished. We came in with low pressure in the right rear and ended up 15th. We were a way better car than that, but that’s just racing.
“On Tuesday we were competitive all night long. I was pretty happy with the way it went. We had no issues. It proved some of the changes we made over the winter were the right changes.”
Wilson’s best outing was his final race as he picked up a ninth-place finish last Tuesday.
“I want to give a special thanks to Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics, Gear Off Road and all of our sponsors,” he said. “We’re glad to get the season rolling.”
The team has a Hercules Tires dealership visit this Thursday at Davis Tire in Rincon, Ga., before joining the USCS Series on Saturday for a race at Dothan Motor Speedway in Cottonwood, Ala.
