Inside Line Promotions – MILTON, Fla. (March 3, 2020): Greg Wilson hustled to the Hard Charger Award on Saturday to cap a USCS Series doubleheader.
Wilson guided his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road backed team from 14th to sixth during his debut at Southern Raceway, showcasing a strong end to a weekend that began on a sour note.
“I was pretty happy,” he said. “I’ve been using these races to work with some things I normally wouldn’t work on. When you go to a World of Outlaws or All Star show it’s so hard if you’re off a tiny bit. With these races we can sacrifice some to try to help us later in the year. We tried a bunch of stuff all night on Saturday. If nothing else we learned some things.”
The learning began on Friday when Wilson made his debut at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he placed second in the dash before maneuvering from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up ninth in the A Main.
“We got caught up in a crash in turns one and two on the opening lap,” he said. “We got back out and drove up to seventh when a guy spun in front of me. I hit him with the right rear and it cut a hole in the sidewall of the tire. That was about midway through the race. At that point we called it a night before we tore up anything else.”
Wilson was credited with a 19th-place finish.
He closed the weekend by visiting Southern Raceway on Saturday. A fifth-place finish in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.
“Getting torn up on Friday effected Saturday a little bit because it bent the torsion tube and some other stuff,” he said. “We had a bad pill draw and I tried not to get myself in a bad spot during the heat race. Then we ended up starting a row further back than we should have in the feature and ran up to sixth. We were okay. We probably didn’t have everything 100 percent so that’s what we’re doing this week.
“We’ve worked hard today and I have a list of stuff to measure and check. We’re going to Chatham this weekend a little different than we’d normally go as far as a setup being something outside of our box.”
Wilson, who earned the Hard Charger Award after powering from 14 th to sixth in the feature on Saturday, will make his debut at Chatham Speedway in Chatham, La., this Friday and Saturday.
