PETERSEN MEDIA: Plans changed for Joel Myers Jr on Saturday morning. Parting ways with Vertullo Motorsports, the thrash was on to get his family car ready for Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, and it would pay off as he picked up a third-place finish.

“After making the tough decision to part ways with Vertullo Motorsports Saturday morning, we were in a scramble to get our car ready and we were able to make it all happen and roll through the pit gate just before the driver’s meeting,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I really have to thank my family, Cody, and the Hammes’ for all of their help to make this possible.”

Timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/PitStopUSA backed No. 46jr in third quickest in his qualifying group, the 16-year-old pilot then went on to pick up a convincing win during heat race competition.

With the win, ‘Jr’ made himself eligible for the Dash where he picked up a third-place finish and put the Joel Myers Racing mount in the second row of the 35-lap feature event.

On a very slick surface following the conclusion of the 40-lap KWS feature, Myers Jr would roll the bottom in the early goings of the feature though it didn’t quite pan out as he slipped back to fifth.

Getting up on the thick Placerville Speedway curb, Myers Jr would begin to go the right direction until a slight bobble saw him fall back to seventh before he used a restart to reclaim fifth.

A late race restart worked out in Myers Jr’s favor as a couple of cars in front of him got together and propelled him to third in what would be a two-lap dash to the finish.

Unable to improve his finishing position, Myers capped off an eventful day with his first career podium with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“I said it earlier, but I really am thankful for the opportunity that Vertullo Motorsports gave me, and I do wish them all the best moving forward,” Myers Jr said. “Saturday night though, was a great group effort by so many people. Great to get on the podium and hopefully we can have a good run with the 410ci over the next week.”
