PETERSEN MEDIA- Though he admits that their results don’t quite show it, Kaleb Montgomery is pleased with the speed he has had during his first two races at Placerville Speedway with the F&F Racing team. Saturday night, Montgomery took part in the track’s regular season opener where he would end up with a 12th place finish after doing a 360 while running in sixth.
“We had a good qualifying run, but I messed it up by not getting out of our heat and forcing us into the ‘B’,” Montgomery said. “We were really good in the ‘B’, and once we got into the ‘A’, we were still good, and I was passing cars until I spun out and lost a handful of positions.”
Thirty one cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the track’s points opener and Montgomery would time the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Lucas Oil backed No. x1 machine in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Templeton, CA driver would slip back to finish fifth, which would not transfer him into the feature event. Making a trip to the ‘B’, Montgomery would get the jump from his pole position and lead the way to the win.
Transferring to the ‘A’, Montgomery would benefit from his qualifying time as he would line up ninth, just behind the eight redraw cars.
Saturday night saw a very fast Placerville Speedway surface stay in really good shape all night long. With two grooves in the feature, both were very equal which made passing that much more difficult.
Working his way forward once the race came to life, Montgomery would quickly get into eighth, before taking over the seventh position on the race’s eighth lap.
Amidst a near non-stop race, Montgomery would continue to hold down the seventh position until moving into sixth on the 17th lap. Trying to make a bid for the a spot in the top five, Montgomery would lose the handle on his machine and do a quick 360.
Able to keep his machine under power and avoid bringing out the yellow, Montgomery would fall back to 13th as he gathered his car back up.
Once back up to speed, Montgomery was able to get into 12th on the 19th lap, where he would go on to close out the night.
“Every time I get in the car we are improving, and I feel like we are really fast,” Montgomery said. “Our results will definitely improve, and despite the tough finish I am really excited to get back up the hill with the F&F Racing team again on Saturday night.”
F&F Racing would like to thank Bushey Financial Services, C&H Motor Parts, Lucas Oil, Geico Local Office, Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, Pacific Highway Rentals, PitStopUSA, FVP, CRV Carbon Solutions, American River Overhead Door, All Pro Heads, Engler, and Don Ott Racing Engines for their support.
