PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action with the Xtreme Outlaw Series on Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway, Robert Ballou would overcome a post heat race incident and simply thrill the crowd as he charged to a second-place finish in the feature event.
“There was an unfortunate miscommunication following our heat race that ended up with us getting disqualified,” Robert Ballou said. “We went to work and had a pretty good night in the end as we won the ‘B’ from last and charged from 17th to finish second in the ‘A’.”
Timing the Suburban Subaru/Deaton’s Waterfront Service/Rossie Feed and Grain backed No. 12 mount in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, Ballou would go on to pick up a win during heat race competition.
Following a post-race interview, a miscommunication would result in Ballou missing the scales, which resulted in a DQ from his heat race and then placed him last on the starting grid of the ‘B’.
From the back of the pack, Ballou had his elbows up and thrilled on lookers as he carved his way around the slick Lake Ozark Speedway surface. Putting his car simply where the others were not, Ballou made a statement as he raced to the win and punched his ticket into the feature event.
Taking the green flag from 17th, Ballou picked up where he left off as he began carving his way through the field. Making some daring moves, Ballou would get into second and put himself in position to take over the race lead following Brady Bacon’s miscue.
Battling with CJ Leary for the top spot following a late restart, Ballou’s storied run would come up just short of a win, though it was still spectacular, as he closed the night off with a second-place finish.
“We were really fast in Florida, and I had a really good feeling about the year, and I think we made some more noise on Saturday night,” Ballou said. “I feel stronger, I feel healthier, and I am back to having fun inside a racecar.”
