First round results are in for the fan portion of SprintCarUnlimited.com’s Bracket Pool for Top Sprint Car owners since 1985.

The top 10 seeds got through the Round of 32 unscathed and move on to the Round of 16. The first upset occurred at No. 11, as Jason Meyers was bounced out of the bracket by No. 22 John and Pee Wee Zemaitis.

Below are the results from the Round of 32. The Round of 16 match-ups will be posted later tonight.

Karl Kinser (1) vs. Gary Beam (32): This proved to be a tough road for Beam, as Kinser racked up 90.91 percent of the vote on the strength of World of Outlaws wins and titles, as well as big-race wins in the Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal.

Guy Forbrook (16) vs. Bob Stewart (17): Stewart did a lot of damage on our list with Fred Rahmer and Greg Hodnett behind the wheel. The iconic Apple Chevrolet machine slipped past Midwest’s best in Forbrook by a slim margin 52.02 percent to 47.98 percent. No doubt the central Pennsylvania contingent had a say in this very mild upset.

Dennis Roth (9) vs. Jason Johnson Racing (24): And the California contingent keeps on winning. Roth has won a lot of races in his time as a car owner, and he can add another triumph to his list by acquiring 69.19 percent of the vote. JJR notched a little over 30 percent, which tells me the public wants more than just Knoxville Nationals wins.

Casey Luna (8) vs. Jack Elden (25): It was tough deciding who to put at No. 25 on our list, and the fans followed suit in this match-up with Luna. That iconic No. 10 is beloved, and it showed with Luna garnering 74.24 percent of the vote. Despite big wins by Jac Haudenschild, Elden only got 25.76 percent.

Kasey Kahne Racing (4) vs. Gil Sonner (29): You face a top five owner in this pool, and there is a good chance you are going home. Kasey Kahne was a success from the outset and continued to get stronger the last eight years. That was good enough for 87.37 percent of the vote, leaving Sonner with 12.63 percent.

Tod Quiring (13) vs. Terry McCarl (20): This was setting up to be an upset early on, as McCarl was ahead at one point. Quiring, who ironically had McCarl as a driver, had a late flurry and banked 57.58 percent of the vote. So, I guess that means McCarl, who settled for 42.42 percent, helped beat himself.

Don Kreitz Jr. (12) vs. Walt Dyer (21): No doubt this was a tough one for Pennsylvania fans, as both are beloved in the region. Kreitz’s longevity and big wins — that 1986 Kings Royal didn’t hurt — put him over the top in this one. The former driver and now owner posted 63.13 percent of the vote to Dyer’s 36.87 percent.

Bob Weikert (5) vs. John Bores/Jim Harble (28): I can hear Bob Weikert now, “We had them covered. I was never worried, and we are going to beat them in the next round, too.” Weikert was brilliant after a win, and I’m sure there will be more in this tourney. It should be noted that Weikert earned 97.47 percent fan approval, which is easily the most in the Round of 32 match-ups.

Tony Stewart Racing (2) vs. Gary Kauffman (31): I like what Kauffman and Danny Dietrich have done over the last nine years, but going against TSR is a tall order. The even money says TSR will meet Karl Kinser in the final round, as evidenced by Stewart bagging 84.85 percent to Kauffman’s 15.15 percent.

Stan Shoff (15) vs. Joe Harz (18): This was one of the tougher first-round match-ups, and I was a little surprised by the numbers in this outcome. I thought it would be closer considering Frankie Kerr piloted Shoff’s car to four All Star Circuit of Champions titles in the 90s. Instead, Harz’s big wins and seasons with Fred Rahmer and Lance Dewease put him over the top 56.57 percent to 43.43 percent.

Sammy Swindell (10) vs. CJB Motorsports (23): See, there are people who still like Sammy Swindell. Apparently, there are a lot of them, as this legend ripped off 71.72 percent of the vote to CJB’s 28.28 percent. There was too much of a rèsumè for Swindell, who would put the No. 1 finger up and say, “Still Winning.”

Danny Schatz (7) vs. Tim Hughes (26): It never hurts when you have Donny Schatz behind the wheel, but his dad, Danny, was a big contributor to his son’s success. As for this list, fans backed up our selecting him as a top-10 owner by giving him 85.86 percent of the vote against Tim Hughes’ 14.14 percent. I can’t wait for his Round of 16 match-up. Stay tuned.

Steve Kinser (3) vs. Jim and Sandy Kline (30): It was never easy going against Steve Kinser in a Sprint Car, and apparently, it isn’t any easier on the Internet. Kinser casts a big shadow over Sprint Car racing that very few have been able to escape, and that showed in garnering 82.83 percent of fan votes.

Janet Holbrook (14) vs. Bobby Allen (19): This was the second biggest upset of the first round, as Allen managed 81.82 percent of the vote to Holbrook’s 18.18 percent. I guess people forgot about Holbrook’s Knoxville Nationals title and All Star titles with Tim Shaffer. Not saying Allen shouldn’t have won, but it definitely should’ve been a lot closer.

Jason Meyers (11) vs. John and Pee Wee Zemaitis (22): You could see this one coming from a mile away. Meyers won a pair of Outlaw titles, but people were turned off to the whole Chris Luck situation. That reflected here, as the Zemaitis’ carried 54.55 percent of the vote to Meyers’ 45.45 percent. The reward for a great career and first-round upset is a Round of 16 match against Al Hamilton. Ouch.

Al Hamilton (6) vs. Mike Heffner (27): Heffner has accomplished a lot in his Sprint Car career, but he ran into a buzzsaw in legend Al Hamilton. There were too many wins to overcome, and Hamilton moves on to the next round by garnering 76.77 percent of the vote to Heffner’s 23.23 percent. It’s a shame Hamilton couldn’t meet Bob Weikert before the finals … How fun would that match-up be?
