Inside Line Promotions – BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2020) – Shane Stewart guided Sides Motorsports to a top-10 result on Sunday during the final night of the sprint car portion of the DIRTcar Nationals.
Stewart joined the team to tackle four of the five sprint car races at Volusia Speedway Park, where the week of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series action ended with a ninth-place result. That gives Sides Motorsports at least one top 10 during the event in 13 of the last 14 years.
“We had speed all week and were just looking for it all to come together,” Stewart said. “Sunday was an efficient night and it was good to end on a positive note. The team had a rough start to the week so I think we’re all wishing it started on Sunday so we could build from there.”
Stewart qualified inside the top 10 twice during his four races and he locked directly into the feature through the heat race each night. Stewart won a heat race to make the dash on Sunday. Unfortunately, he drew the third-highest number to start sixth in the race. He finished where he started to line up sixth for the main event. Stewart battled between fifth and ninth throughout the 30-lap race before securing the team’s best result of the week.
Team owner Jason Sides enjoyed his best night on Saturday when he maneuvered from 26th to 18th, which was the third-most cars passed in the main event.
“I didn’t get qualified well any of the four nights,” he said. “Qualifying is so critical and Volusia doesn’t really start to get racy where you can pass a lot of cars until midway through the main event so if you don’t qualify near the front you’re in for a long night.”
Sides will return to competition this Thursday through Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla., during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s. Sides was the event champion in 2002 and he won a preliminary night at the bullring in both 2015 and 2016.
