PETERSEN MEDIA: Another Watsonville, CA and Placerville, CA doubleheader weekend led to a busy, but successful, weekend for Tanner Carrick. Having two very good runs, Carrick picked up a pair of second place finishes after being away from the track for a couple of weeks.

“We were good both nights, but Friday night it was really hard to pass, and on Saturday night I just made the wrong decision in traffic while leading,” Tanner Carrick said.

Making the trip to Watsonville, CA on Friday night to take part in weekly action at Ocean Speedway, Carrick got the nigh underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed no. 83T in fifth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA product settled into fourth as the field filtered out around the ¼ mile bullring.

Finishing fourth, Carrick missed out on the Dash and rolled off of the starting grid from the eighth starting position.

Though the track was in good shape all night long, passing proved to be tricky in the 30-lapper as Carrick ran in sixth during the opening stages of the feature. Briefly slipping back to seventh, Carrick moved into fifth at the halfway point when he began to make his way forward.

Patiently working his way forward, Carrick moved into second with just seven laps to go in the race as he chased after race leader, Justin Sanders.

Making a slight dent in Sanders’ advantage, Carrick just could not overcome the sizeable lead in limited laps as he closed the night out with a second place finish.

Travelling to Placerville Speedway on Saturday, Carrick hit the track for qualifying as the final car to take a time of the 21 entries. Laying down two great laps, Carrick earned quick time honors which put him in the second row of his heat race.

Going from fourth to second in his heat, the Lincoln, CA pilot was securely in the redraw where the three pill put him in the second row of the 25-lap feature.

After two failed attempts at a start, the third start stuck as Carrick jumped into third and chased after Stephen Ingraham and Luke Hayes.

With Hayes and Ingraham having early issues, Carrick assumed the race lead on the third circuit and looked very stout out front on the slick Placerville Speedway surface.

Racing to a comfortable advantage, Carrick soon felt pressure from Ashton Torgerson as they began to race through traffic.

Able to keep Torgerson at bay, lap 18 saw Carrick dip low in traffic, but Torgerson kept his momentum around the top of the track and got by Carrick and dropped him back to second.

Chasing after Torgerson over the finale laps, Carrick was unable to get back by and capped his weekend off with a second-place finish.

“I made a mistake and got off the top in traffic and it let him by,” Carrick said. “That was on me. My guys gave me a great car, and we came up one spot short.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
